Welcome to Dr. Amendolara’s Lab
Our lab is dedicated to uncovering new insights at the intersection of neurology, neuroscience, and osteopathic medicine. Through rigorous methodology, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovative data-driven approaches, we aim to strengthen clinical understanding and improve patient care. Our research portfolio spans stroke intervention, predictive modeling, clinical trials, and foundational osteopathic science.

Current Research Projects
Thrombectomy in Medium Vessel Occlusion – Systematic Review
We are conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis exploring the effectiveness of thrombectomy procedures in medium vessel occlusions (a subset of ischemic strokes). This project is currently in development and focuses on synthesizing existing evidence to better understand outcomes and treatment considerations.
Predicting Stroke Risk Using National Health Data
Using the CDC’s annual health survey dataset, this project seeks to refine and expand a predictive model that identifies factors associated with prior stroke diagnosis. The work combines epidemiological analysis with machine learning techniques, supported by opportunities for literature review, data exploration, and model development.
Osteopathic Manipulation for Post-Operative Ileus – Clinical Trial
In partnership with the Noorda OMM Department, the NMM fellowship, and the Mayo La Crosse Family Medicine Residency, this prospective randomized controlled trial investigates a standardized osteopathic treatment protocol for preventing post-operative ileus in surgical patients. Current work includes protocol development, IRB preparation, grant planning, and cross-departmental coordination.
Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine
This series of projects aims to strengthen the scientific basis of core osteopathic principles through mixed-methods systematic reviews. Topics include vertebral biomechanics (Fryette’s Laws), joint biomechanics, myofascial techniques, and lymphatic function. These studies help clarify the validity, generalizability, and underlying physiological mechanisms behind foundational osteopathic concepts.
Our Approach
-
Evidence-Based Methods: Systematic reviews, clinical trials, and advanced statistical modeling guide our investigations.
-
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Neurology, osteopathic medicine, machine learning, and clinical departments work together to advance each project.
-
Meaningful Impact: Each study is designed to deepen scientific understanding and contribute to better clinical outcomes.
