Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen Policy

Students are required to undergo a background check and drug screen at designated points in their training and prior to matriculation, at their own expense. Random or additional screenings may be required by Noorda-COM or any of its affiliates at the student’s expense and within a specified period of time determined by Noorda-COM. Failure to comply with the requirements for screenings will result in disciplinary action. These screenings must meet the guidelines specified by Noorda-COM and its affiliates.

Students should disclose any prescribed medication at the time of the urine drug screen collection site, and are required to disclose prescribed medication information to the Medical Review Officer (MRO) and actively participate in the MRO required process.

Applicants and enrolled students are required to disclose, within 48 hours, any criminal charges, convictions, pleas (including no contest), adverse background check findings, or other conduct that may affect their eligibility for clinical placement, licensure, residency matching, or employment. Failing to disclose required information or providing false or misleading information may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

Admission to, or continued enrollment in, Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine (“Noorda-COM”) is conditional and does not guarantee eligibility for clinical placements, graduation, residency matching, licensure, certification, or employment. Decisions by Noorda-COM to admit or retain a student following disclosure of a criminal history or adverse finding do not constitute a determination or representation that the student will be eligible for residency training, licensure, or employment. Such determinations are made solely by external entities, including but not limited to clinical sites, residency programs, licensing boards, certifying bodies, and employers, each of which applies its own standards and criteria.
